Mackin’ Forever Ever

20 Feb

CUT OF THE DAY: BIG K.R.I.T. – “R4 THEME SONG”

Forever ever? Most definitely. I’m sorry ”Ms. Jackson”, but I’m in love with Andre 3000. Mississippi’s Big K.R.I.T. grabs that sample for the theme song from his 2011 mixtape, Return of 4Eva. 4Eva-eva. One of the sweetest hip-hop jams from a year ago. “Music is my bitch, let nothing comes between us.” I love that line and I feel the same way. The YouTube description for the video says YOU ARE BEING BRAINWASHED. It made me laugh.

Another money sample comes from Batimore’s Softones. “My Dream” is from their self-titled 1973 album and it’s smooth as hell. At the end of the ”R4 Theme Song”, a deep-voiced dude arrives on the scene and says “now remember, you got to go out there and you gotta work like nobody’s ever worked before, can you dig it?” A Google search led me to believe that sample was from the 1973 classic blaxploitation flick The Mack, but I spent an hour unsuccessfully confirming it. What a giant waste of time. I’m going to have to find that movie. I do know that the soundtrack by Willie Hutch has been sampled a zillion times and the movie is all about pimps and hoes.

“Rotation” is another hot Big K.R.I.T. song and it basically described my life in one sentence. “Not a care in the world, me and my girl.” And our two kids, but you get my drift. While I do like it when artists shoot for the full 80 minute on a disc, this would’ve been a classic if it was half that long. Still a very good listen. One of the best rap albums of 2011 from a royal King Remembered In Time.

RAEKWON – “WISDOM BODY”

Goldie: No man, all bitches are the same. Just like my hoes. You know I keep ‘em broke. Wake up one mornin’ with some money, they’re subject to go crazy you know? I keep em lookin good, pretty and all that you know, but no dough. When I get a bitch, I got a bitch.
Other pimp: Right on.
Me: Right on.

Another sample from The Mack. I always wondered what the deal was with the intro on “Wisdom Body”. Somebody went through the trouble of putting the scene from the movie over the song on YouTube. Sadly, the lip sync is off and it made me want to fix it. Chef Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is one of the greatest rap albums of all-time. No ifs ands or buts about it.

UGK – “INT’L PLAYERS ANTHEM” (I CHOOSE YOU) (w-OUTKAST)

You guessed it, another sweet sample from The Mack and more Andre 3000. This time UGK used Willie Hutch’s “I Choose You” and it’s delicious. I can’t tell you how much I love discovering old school samples like this. It almost gives me a boner. “Int’l Players Anthem” is off 2007′s self-titled double-album Underground Kingz. This serious jam deserves cut of the day status. I’m starting to love The Mack.

DR. DRE – “RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT” (w-SNOOP & RBX)

Olinga: You really don’t understand do you? Hey man, don’t you know in order for us to make this thing work, we gotta get rid of the pimps, and the pushers, and then start all over again clean?
The Chronic: Niggas you crazy!

More from The Mack! Another puzzle solved. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Dre’s The Chronic. It sort of changed my life a little. Could be my favorite rap album of all-time. At the very least, it’s in my top 7 with Nas’ Illmatic, Biggie’s Ready to Die, Jay-Z’s The Blueprint, Wu-Tang’s 36 Chambers, Snoop’s Doggystyle & Tribe’s Midnight Marauders.

BOSTON SPORTS – GROSS WEEKEND

At long last, Josh Beckett talked about the Sox collapse last year. Finally. He said he suffered from lapses of judgment. He admitted that he put on weight, but had no idea how it happened. He also said he had some ill will towards some people. Wow. He never admitted he was wrong and didn’t come close to apologizing. Entitlement in full effect, I think he might have made it worse. Thank you for everything you did in 2007, but it’s time for Josh Beckett to go.

Speaking of the collapse, Mike Felger asked Bobby Valentine straight out if he was going to allow alcohol in the clubhouse. He said he decided, but wouldn’t say yes or no. When Felger pressed, he said he was waiting for the right time…and announcing it on Comcast wasn’t the right time.

Instead of platooning Mike Aviles and Nick Punto at shortstop, can we just roll the dice with Jose Iglesias? He’s got a nasty glove and at least that would provide consistency up the middle. Can somebody remind me why we traded Marco Scutaro?

Didn’t realize the Bruins were on NBC Sunday afternoon. It didn’t matter because they lost 2-0 to Minnesota as their midseason slide continues. No Nathan Horton, no Rich Peverley, no excuses. I smell a trade.

The Celtics lost to the Pistons for the 2nd time in less than a week. The fucking Pistons? Come on. Kevin Garnett didn’t play for personal reasons. Brandon Bass didn’t suit up either. Rajon Rondo got ejected in the 3rd quarter for throwing the ball at an official. I’d be alright with Rondo playing for a different team. Whether you want to admit it or not, he’s overrated. And sometimes he’s a dramatic crybaby. This is a tough year for the Celts.

It’s been kind of gross around here since the Pats lost the Super Bowl. Barf.

51 days with no caffeine or alcohol.
16 days til Black Keys and beers.
